"When a band of the caliber of AFTER FOREVER plays a show such as MonsterMania or the upcoming ChillerTheatre-run Fango, they raise the entire level of the show"--Dave Hagan, MonsterMania Convention director
Hailing from Baltimore
Maryland, After Forever was founded for the sole purpose of recreating
through live performance the music of the legendary Black Sabbath.
Comprised of veteran musicians, After Forever celebrates this music with a
passion borne through nearly three decades of formal study, influence and
outright fanaticism. We then employ gear and amplification that was
designed to meet the tonal demands of Black Sabbath themselves.
Breaking with the traditional practice of many tribute bands however,
After Forever is, first and foremost, a labor of love. This isn't about
money or capitalizing on a trend.
As such, the sole concentration is the music - and nothing but the music.
This dedication to purpose manifests itself through our performances -
which has led After Forever to share the stage with national acts such as
Blue Oyster Cult, Thin Lizzy & BANG, Dee Snider of Twisted Sister fame, members of the original Alice Cooper Band, as well as supporting stoner, heavy and doom rock in the Washington DC, Maryland, and Virginia areas.
Here's our take on the finest band ever to grace the planet:
Black Sabbath has been universally recognized as the first band to pioneer
a haunting, bone crunching style of heavy rock. In so doing, the band
marked the dawning of an entirely new musical genre - a genre now commonly
referred to as "heavy metal." Moreover, with the release of
their debut LP "Black Sabbath" in February 1970, the band
introduced doom into the world of flower power, peace, love and happiness
and essentially hastened the irrelevance of that era musically and to a
great extent philosophically as well.
In truth, by 1970, major cultural, political and musical changes were
afoot in the United States and abroad. The 1960's had come and gone, and
while the contributions of this era cannot be denied, young people coming
of age during this time didn't feel particularly connected to the values,
ideals and political philosophy expressed therein. A sea change was taking
place, the "me" generation had come of age with a vengeance and
were eager from something other than the music and values representative
of the 1960's.
Enter Black Sabbath! Detested by critics, hated by parents, feared by
religious organizations, shunned by "self-respecting" artists,
and virtually ignored by the mainstream media, Black Sabbath nonetheless
attracted a massive underground following that is the true testament to
the power and influence of their music. No other band in the history of
the world had ever managed to pit so many diverse elements of society
against them and come away the better for it. Tales of despair, doom,
gloom, and redemption, set to a backdrop of knuckle dragging, Neanderthal
fury is, in our opinion, without equal.
So there you have it! We sincerely hope that our efforts will encourage
younger generations of artists and fans alike to explore vintage Black
Sabbath and come to appreciate this music as we do. See you at an upcoming
show.
